RORY MCLEOD
THE ONLY SNOOKER PLAYER OF AFRICAN DESCENT TO WIN A WORLD-RANKING SNOOKER TOURNAMENT
The chronicles and untold story of a trailblazer who, against all odds, won a world-ranking event.
In 2015, Rory McLeod won a world-ranking snooker tournament. He is still the only snooker player of African descent to qualify, play and win on the world snooker tour.
The challenges and barriers that Rory faced 8 years ago remain in place today. Similar barriers exist in all sports, most notably football, and for a considerably longer time period.
People from all demographics should have equal access to sport, and participation should always be encouraged. The sensation and euphoria of playing, and ultimately winning, should be possible for everyone, resulting in a more inclusive society.
Rory’s life and his unprecedented success provides him with a unique insight into the obstacles faced by underrepresented groups in society today.
Rory’s mission is to support people who may find themselves isolated and marginalised by the system and the existing sporting infrastructure.
Rory’s experience is invaluable to those who wish to participate and hope to excel at the highest level.
